This coastal canal house is designed to avoid a common challenge of this neighborhood pattern. Canal houses typically orient their casual lifestyle to the fishing boat and to the water, only to look across to a like minded neighbor looking back. This design is staggered and bowed along a curving bulkhead so as to shift the views to the diagonal vistas down the canal. In the process, a maritime imagery and scale is created. Cast-in-place concrete columns and entry portal imply a stone classicism while providing a more storm resistant structure.
