Dawson elementary school design is founded on three basic principles – that every classroom should enjoy natural light; that circulation should be ordered and readable; and that primary school architecture can be both disciplined and fun.  The architecture displays both the creativity, and the studiousness and discipline that is expected of the children.  Patronizing super-graphics and play-toy imagery are avoided in favor of a composition of substantial materials (primarily wood, steel, brick, and concrete block) in a context that invites and encourages the dynamics of changing student-made decorations.
